  • Live Music: Enemy In Me

This was a rare opportunity – my friend Pete’s band plays the Buckhorn bar in Laramie during Jubilee Days (Laramie’s yearly rodeo and street carnival), just a few weeks before he leaves for Chicago. It was most satisfying. The uncatagorizable crowd in the Buckhorn during Jubilee Days meets the uncatagorizable band from Pete’s garage studio.…

  • Vedauwoo – Valley Massif

I can’t resist this area of Vedauwoo. This time our friend Eryka comes along, and we hike into Valley Massif from the west instead of east. The flowers have totally changed, from pasque flowers and paintbrush to evening primrose, harebell, yarrow, and many I don’t know. The mosquitos are out in force now, and poor…

  • Review: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Extended Version

I was amazed what some extra time for character development did for my enjoyment of this movie. It made the acting seem better due to enhanced continuity, and even the long battles are more entertaining when you care more about the characters. I can’t wait to watch the other extended versions.

  • Lake Agnes & Mount Richtofen

We get going early up to Cameron Pass for a hike that my dad took me on many times as a kid, past Lake Agnes and up Mount Richtofen. The early start pays off when we arrive at a nearly empty parking area that is just like I remember it, atop a dirt road that’s…

  • Weekend Windstorm

Just before my dad arrives for a nice outdoor grilled dinner a wicked windstorm busts out. It folds trees and pummels everything with dust. I’m relieved to see that the lighter trailers in the park are fine, even though it feels standing on a beach ball in Moby Jane. Thirty minutes later the weather is…

  • Boat Ride & BBQ on Horsetooth Reservoir

Our friends Tracy and Kevin take Ann out in their fast boat on Horsetooth Reservoir. I join them after work for one ride. This isn’t our usual form of recreation, but I must admit it is fun to go this fast on the water. I don’t know if I’ve been in a car that accellerates…

  • Old Town Yoga Site Goes Live

I designed and built this site for the studio where I take Yoga classes. It uses TYPO3 for content management, featuring news, email subscription, and a nice class and event calander. I like this two-column CSS layout the best of all the sites I’ve done so far. Getting the calendar extension working was the toughest…

  • Live Music: Olga Kern and the Rochester Philharmonic

After another exhausting day of moving, we pile into the Subaru with essentially no preparation to see Olga Kern play Rachmaninov’s 2nd piano concerto at the Gerald Ford Ampitheatre in Vail. We’re delirious. We don’t even bring a sweater, we’ve been so continually hot these past days. When there is something resembling a snow shower…

  • Movie: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

This was a good way to unwind from a long day of moving. The material I’d expect was all there, and still funny, but the timing was a bit off or something. It didn’t quite click along like the radio show. Of course it wasn’t twelve hours long either. The sense of bewilderment at the…

  • Into the Belly of the Whale

Moving into Moby Jane is not easy, but there are pleasant surprises. There’s room for some books, files, pictures, the KitchenAid, and quite a few clothes without even hitting the outside storage. The more we move in the freer we feel. We can’t resist trying to put the awning up without reading the instructions. It…
