  • Guffey Butte Hike

I’ve been wanting to get more of a sense of how the landscapes I explore are changing. Usually it’s not obvious at all (to me), so I’ll have to do some research. Recently we’ve been hiking near the Snake River, and it reminds us of our old stomping grounds along the Rio Grande with lots…

  • Back on Bikes

The bikes are equipped and tuned again! We take them out for a wandering outing around Nampa, and remember why we miss riding. We get some exercise, greet people, explore places we haven’t been before, and watch the sky for rain. A bike engages you in the world in many good ways.

  • RSF Social Finance Impact Map Enhancements

We’ve updated this map of RSF Social Finance projects with a larger map pane, extra zoom control, smaller controls in general, full post display below the map, and a tabbed alternate list view. Next up is an interface for users to submit their projects using a customized gravity form to make the map as social…

  • Halverson Lakes Hike

We’re in need of a good hike. I had my wisdom teeth pulled last week and have been off my feet, dragging Ann down with me. This hike turns out to be full of surprises and leaves us feeling tired but not wrecked. It begins at Celebration Park on the Snake River, a park full…

  • Rack ’em up

We’re spending time with Ann’s parents in Nampa, Idaho. With all the stuff we can’t carry stored here, this is where we reconfigure our rig for the next foray into the world. When we eliminated our cargo trailer last fall we rarely missed it except for one thing: our bikes. Having that extra transportation and…

  • Typekit + Geo Mashup @ Have Camera Will Travel

Photographer David Coleman uses Typekit for the fonts on his website, and naturally wants the fonts in his map info bubbles to match their surroundings. This was my first experience with typekit, but I with a little customiztion I’d say it suits Geo Mashup nicely.

  • Author Markers at Alex Asigno’s Travel Blog

Alex hired me to help him color his travel map markers by author instead of category. A Geo Mashup customization did the trick, and an administration page for assigning colors to authors lets him do the same trick on other blogs. Happy travels, Alex!

  • Level 1 Avalanche Course

I’ve been traveling in the winter backcountry for most of my life with no formal avalanche education. While most of my activities have been fairly low risk for avalanche exposure, and I’ve listened to some avalanche awareness presentations, I finally admit that those measures are not sufficient in the long term for my activities. It’s…

  • Shadow Mountain Tour

I remember this long, gentle, snowy trail from a trip with my dad in 2007, and I’m happy to have the chance to share it with Ann. It’s situated right across the valley from the Grand Teton, providing almost ridiculous mountain views. Entering Teton National Forest Teton Trail View Tetons with cloud divide By the…

  • Cache Creek Walk

We made it to Jackson! And at last we get outside a bit. This is just a few miles of gentle snow walking up Cache Creek creek road, but hopefully is a sign of our physical recovery after being sick for so long… Ann hiking in the snow
