  • Relay Peak with the Machines

I knew all the snow machine trailers parked between the pass and Incline lake must be playing somewhere, and Relay peak is the place! Despite the buzzing I enjoy the gorgeous day with Ann and Gabe (and four-legged Dora), and the northwest side of the peak even looks alluring enough for a return trip methinks……

  • Morning fog to Incline Lake Peak

I wake up early to unusually foggy conditions in Reno, then join Mike to drive above the fog to Incline lake. We find frozen hard snow conditions, but great sunrise views. Morning Moon Sunrise on the skin track Misty Incline Summit Mike and Juni Reno Fog Below

  • Open Data Reno at Hack4Reno

I had a great time this weekend at the 2nd annual Hack4Reno working on Open Data Reno, a hub to identify both available data pertinent to Reno and unfulfilled needs for data. The site is built on a WordPress theme started by Colin Loretz at last year’s hackathon, and this year I jumped in along…

  • Halverson Lakes Meander

There’s a chilly breeze and the sun is low, but conditions smile just enough to be pleasant for this outing in the Snake River canyon with Ann’s brother Ryan and sister in law Danielle. A few birds appear as I’ve come to expect here: a red-tailed hawk tusseling with a raven, a prairie falcon dipping…

  • Snow Arrives

It’s time to see how the mountains look after the recent storms! Ann and Alli snowshoe while I skin. There’s a couple of feet on the ground – a good start but still a little spare for snowboarding. Alli now understands that we consider it normal to wander aimlessly uphill in the snow just to…

  • Election Evening Run

It’s a quiet, deep-rose twilight in Reno. While votes are tallied around the nation I run up to the trailhead where Ann is returning from a hike, and we scare each other meeting in the dark.

  • Canyon Hills Discovery Hike

A little map gazing revealed a promising-looking hike on the outskirts of Sparks. Alli, Megan, Ann, and I check it out on a superbly clear and warm Sunday afternoon and give it our approval. A little gunfire secures the Nevada charm. Mount Rose and Reno Meta Hiking Photo

If you’re fortunate enough to be able to take a workday evening hike, why not just make sure that arm flapping still does not enable flight? Dylan flaps Just don’t break a wing. Dylan broke wing

  • Last perfect climbing day of the season?

Maybe not, but Ann and I go up to Big Chief with our friend Wes just in case. Ann climbing Wampum 5.7 Wes climbing at Big Chief Wes climbing at Big Chief Routes: Wampum 5.7, Route Stealers from Hell 5.10a, Sundance 5.10a, Half Baked 5.10a

  • Keshet

My best challenge for this compendium of Jewish LGBT resources was the highly-classified equality guide geo search. The “I’m looking for” menu (enhanced with Chosen) allows geo searches for specific taxonomy terms and also some pre-defined combinations of terms. The separate, extra-important affiliation selector combines with this choice. Whew! There were lots of other features…
