I encounter hawks, elk, cattle, and Ann! The trail takes a different route than I expect, then takes me high.
July 15 – CDT Targhee Pass to Mile Creek
I get some time in high on the continental divide, encounter a pair of grouse, solve terrain puzzles, and reach my first rendezvous point at Mile creek.
July 14 – CDT Fish Creek Road to Targhee Pass
I leave Ann for the trail and get straight into water issues while I think about my hopes for the hike.
July 13 – “Over” the Tetons to Idaho
We change our minds about to how to get to the start of my hike in Idaho.
July 9 – Sean and Matt get married
We cheer our friends in Denver and hear them say vows Ann and I would say again to each other.
July 8 – A passel o’ cousins
Visiting my cousin Doug in Fort Collins, 4-year-old cousin Hazel proves a tough interview subject. Five-month-old Miles is more cooperative. We sing happy birthday to their Grandma Beth.
July 7 – link it up
We spend our last day in Vedauwoo on foot. I concoct a southbound traversal linking many of the trails I’ve scoped out and one I’ve never seen, finishing at the Nautilus rock formation, too pooped to climb it.
July 6 – shakey slab, trail loop, and mosquitos
I describe Vedauwoo slab climbing, piece a fine muddy trail loop together, and ponder the mosquito season.
July 5 – wildlife encounters, fantasia, and shower 1
We are among the creatures who emerge to play today before we drive down the hill for a quick freshener.
July 4 – No Fantasia for us
We fail to account for July 4 climbing crowds.
