Movie: Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)

I don’t know whether this movie was supposed to be a campy satire, a serious drama, or a Shakespearean tragedy. Maybe all of the above. The mix can be a bit quixotic, but there’s no doubt that it’s good.

  1. I like the “Bridge”. See “King Rat”, and read the book too if you can find it. I just read “No Time for Sargents” by Mac Hyman. Pretty funny, a country bumkins view of his world. There’s a classic movie version.

  2. I have read King Rat, but I didn’t know there was a movie version! That was the most autobiographical of Clavell’s books – pretty amazing. I can’t imagine a movie doing it justice, but I’ll check it out.
