Hitting the Road

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 11:55 pm

My map has dots now as I make preparations to take to the highways. There is definitely potential for CyberHobo escapades. The big question now is how long it will be before someone snatches up the CyberHobo’s services long term. There are contenders in Denver and California, and they are neck and neck so far.

Lurking at Dad’s

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 11:54 pm

I’m actually enjoying Laramie so far. I just took a walk along snow-covered Spring Creek in front of my Dad’s house, and quacked back and forth with a bunch of ducks. That never seemed to happen in Denver, even on my mountain bike rides up Waterton Canyon. I’m also negotiating an invitation in the desert in California, may be a nice place to spend the winter! You may soon see some new dots on the map…

Homeless!

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 11:49 pm

I’m homeless! Well, not quite totally yet, I’m regrouping in Wyoming at my dad’s. I’ve had two invitations from the west coast and one from the east to tempt me so far. One of them even offered the services of an attractive masseuse as compenstation – let’s have some more of that! I need to make a press release to put my web site on the map and let the invitations build up the critical mass I need to actually hit the road. Vive la CyberHobo!

My Grandfather Passes On

While I wasn’t there when my grandfather died, I’m eternally grateful for the week I spent helping to care for him in the hospital prior to his death. As a child he was a magical figure to me, the source of gifts, desserts, far-fetched stories, and fishing trips. As an adult I marvel at his accomplishments, and feel rather small in comparison. Here is a short biography, written by my mother and printed in The Island Sun, the British Virgin Islands paper that covered much of his work there.

New Address

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 11:49 pm

Yesterday I made the calls to have my phone & utilities shut down. Just for kicks, when the lady asked for my forwarding address I said, “www.cyberhobo.net”. And she asked, “Is there an apartment number there?”

Almost There

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 11:44 pm

I’m not quite an official hobo yet – my current lease in Denver ends on Oct. 14. I hope to get this site operating before then. After that, it’s up to you to invite me someplace interesting!

Birth of a cyberhobo

This cyberhobo is Dylan Kuhn, a software engineer and lover of outdoor explorations.

In the year 2000 I worked for a cool dot-com, but it popped with the bubble. I did software contracts in the Denver area until there were no more contracts to be had. There were men in pinstripe suits with briefcases waiting in line for applications at the new Whole Foods bakery. Rather than get in line with them, I put up this website. I declared that I would travel nearly anywhere and work for nearly anything. A cyberhobo was born.

I will attempt to use this site to help me survive, to record my struggles and endeavors, and to examine the cyberhobo way of life, whatever that turns out to be.
