Denver Doorstep to Falcon Park

Our trailhead is equipped with a stove and espresso maker, which helps us get on the trail nice and early.

IS Trailhead

The route begins with a quick descent.

Pete Steps Out

We depart the Highlands neighborhood…

Highlands Hiking

Negotiate early morning traffic…

Street Walking

Stop at the bank…

Bank Stop

Have a spot of breakfast…

Breakfast

Head over the interstate…

Pete Over I-25

Negotiate the construction zone…

Bike Path Construction

Pass the factories…

Stacks

Go up the alley behind the hair studio…

Alley Trail

Make a quick grocery stop at Target, lunch at Panera, then along Bear Creek, where we find a trail!

Trail!

We take the trail out through the burbs…

Suburb Trail

Past the golf course…

Hiking by Golf Carts

And the coyote den…

Coyote Sign

Under another freeway, and into Morrison!

Morrison

After a big load of veggie fajitas and beer at the Morrison Inn, we take one quick look back at the city.

City Rainbow

Leaving the rainbows behind, we head for the hills…

Hiking above Red Rocks

And lie down exhausted among the red rocks for a long night’s rest.

First Night

A good hard rain interrupts that long night, and we scurry to raise the tent, but not fast enough to start our second day dry!

  1. Great post! Here’s a transcript of a choppy voice mail I received from Dylan at the end of the day: “Hi…successfully made it to Morrison… hot… arduous… tired muscles… chips…blisters on his waist…good spirits…Mexican food…bye…”
