Making dinner plans in 29 Palms for Friday night was a challenge in itself, but we also wanted to celbrate my dad's birthday. We ended up making separate reservations at the small 29 Palms Inn for my family and some other guests that just needed to eat. Of course we ended up all combined and had a very eclectic birthday dinner.
There were a few gifts to open. I gave him a pair of the best mountaineering boots I've tried on, La Sportiva Makalus, and a framed Galen Rowell photograph of a single shooting star wildflower in a field, with Bear Creek Spire glowing in the background.
