Author Markers at Alex Asigno’s Travel Blog

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 09:05 pm

Alex hired me to help him color his travel map markers by author instead of category. A Geo Mashup customization did the trick, and an administration page for assigning colors to authors lets him do the same trick on other blogs. Happy travels, Alex!

Fair Trade Towns USA

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 08:37 am

This is one of my larger projects: a nation-wide site for communities that promote fair trade practices. My part of the project demanded a lot from WordPress and Geo Mashup – here are a few standouts:

  • Many custom content types: towns, organizers, retailers, community organizations, and more.
  • Front end forms for users to create content for their town.
  • Replacement for standard map info windows.
  • Lots more: form validation, some Flickr integration, tracking completed “steps” for each town, wufoo form integration, etc…

Clients: teamed with Vernal Creative and Free Range Studios serving several fair trade organizations.

urbancapture.com – custom Geo Mashup info windows

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 09:46 am

This urban-themed photography site uses Geo Mashup to locate images around the world. I replaced the Google info windows with customized info boxes using jQuery, along with a few other little interface enhancements, like highlighting the map marker for the featured home page image.

Zinn Education Project

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 09:57 pm

I’ve done some quick enhancements to this great resource for educational materials à la Howard Zinn. The front page slideshow, done with jQuery, is the most prominent, with other improvements including integration of the expanded WordPress user registration with wufoo forms and cool fun scrolly links. Great work as always with Vernal Creative.

Netherlands Green Taxis Tally Graph

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 07:09 am

I did a quick improvement to my little Tally Graph WordPress plugin for www.groenetaxi.nl, a site for “green taxis” in the Netherlands. Tally Graph is front and center with a graph of the number of trees saved per month by their green transportation initiative.

MuralLocator.org

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 08:03 am

This up-and-coming Geo Mashup site maps murals around the world. It’s just been reviewed in the LA Times.

I added a couple of good Geo Mashup features for it that will be in the next release: global maps in located posts will automatically center on the post (at last!), and an alternate clustering library (MarkerClusterer) is available as an option.

We Are America Map

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 10:47 pm

Working with Vernal Creative, I customize Geo Mashup to create a map of submitted immigrant stories from across the united states. Additional work went into the video post submission interface, built on top of the All in One Video Pack plugin.

Tata Telepresence Map

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 08:22 am

Client: Vernal Creative

The locations of Tata’s impressive video teleconferencing rooms are presented on a customized Geo Mashup map, with the both an info window summary for each marker, more information about a selected location in the sidebar, and a list of locations by continent below. The CSS wizards at Vernal managed the stylish info window, and I tricked out a few jQuery video slideshows like the one on the home page.

Gypset Atlas and Suggestion Form

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 03:51 pm

This site extolling a gypsy jetset lifestyle had a few special Geo Mashup requests for its atlas: custom markers, tabbed info windows, and a user submission form. I decided to do the form using a standard WordPress page template – almost everything needed is already available right there. A little extra help from the cookies for comments plugin helps keep spam away. Now I just need to trot the globe for a few years to find the perfect submission.

Ubimark.com

Filed under:  — cyberhobo at 07:46 am

This is one of a couple of projects I’ve been working on with Dr. Sorin Matei at Purdue University. The website is related to content in print books, with Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days illustrating the launch. Geo Mashup maps represent locations in the book, which contains print links that can be scanned using a cell phone camera. I did customizations on the maps, and added a radius search to Geo Mashup with a companion plugin that enables radius searches from an Ubimark iPhone application. Fun stuff!
